In a world of innovation polarized by large giants such as Google and Microsoft, what is the role of small entrepreneurial firms? Can, and should, an innovation system such as Silicon Valley be replicated and enhanced under differing social and cultural conditions as in developed and in emerging economies? More generally, would a more open innovation system have different geographical characteristics? In order to discuss these issues, we invite theoretical and empirical research papers across a range of disciplines and fields to contribute to the symposium
