Nordic ERSA Workshop
New perspectives on regional science issues
5-6 December 2024, Malmö University, Sweden
The Nordic section of the European Regional Science Association (ERSA), https://nordicersa.org, is pleased to invite you to a two-day (lunch-to-lunch) workshop. The theme of the workshop is “new perspectives on regional science issues” and provides an opportunity of members of NORDIC ERSA to meet, discuss research and exchange ideas. However, the workshop is open in the sense that researchers that are not (yet) members of NORDIC ERSA are welcome to attend.
Keynote speakers:
The workshop will feature two distinguished keynote speakers that in their recent research address core regional science issues, such as the spatial dimension of social mobility, inequality and taxation:
Åsa Hansson
Åsa Hansson is an associate professor of economics at Lund University and Ratio. She is a leading tax expert in Sweden. She shares her time between the academic world and advising, designing, and evaluating public policies. She has served on several public tax commissions in Sweden and Denmark. In addition, she has been a member of the Swedish Fiscal Council. She is currently a member of the scientific board at the Tax Authority and the Swedish Agency for Growth Policy Analysis. She is also involved in the current public evaluation about centralized health care.
She has authored many scientific articles, reports, and evaluations on tax design, behavioral effect of taxation, and international taxation as well as effects of public policies on work effort and self-sufficiency. She has recently published a book on tax reform for Sweden and written about how digitalization affects the means to finance public welfare. She is managing an interdisciplinary research group, DigiTax, at Lund University and a research project about fiscal federalism.
She has held positions at the University of Copenhagen, University of California at Santa Barbara, the University of Massachusetts, and Williams College. She now divides her time between the Department of Economics and the Department of Technology and Society at Lund university, and Ratio in Stockholm.
Andreas Bergh
Andreas Bergh is associate professor in Economics at Lund university in Sweden and at the Research Institute of Industrial Economics in Stockholm. His research concerns the welfare state, institutions, development, globalization, trust and social norms. Recent publications include European Economic Review, World Development, European Sociological Review and Public choice. He has been a visiting scholar at Harvard university and at the CesIfo institute.
Bergh has written several reports to the Swedish government and is a regular contributor to Sweden’s biggest newspapers. He is the author of ‘Sweden and the revival of the capitalist welfare state” (Edward Elgar).
His most recent book is “Open Markets: How trade helps humans cooperate, create and destroy”.
Following the keynote addresses, there will be sessions with paper presentations, where each paper will have an assigned discussant to provide critical feedback and foster insightful discussions.
Call for Papers:
We invite researchers to submit papers on topics related to regional science and regional and urban economics. Papers should address key challenges and opportunities for regional growth, development, and innovation. Both theoretical and empirical contributions are welcome.
