In memory of Professor Antoine Bailly (1944-2021)
It is with deep sadness that we learned about the passing away of Professor Antoine Bailly on 26 June 2021, at the age of 76.
Professor Antoine Bailly was a renowned scholar with an outstanding international academic career, significant research achievements with key institutions, and many high-level recognitions.
He was the winner of the Vautrin Lud Prize, the Nobel Prize for Geography and received four Honoris Causa Doctorates. In 2008, he received the Founder’s Medal for his lifetime contributions to the field of Regional Science and to the RSAI.
His history with Regional Science was very rich and remarkable: starting with his PhD with Walter Isard at Pennsylvania University. Among his numerous key responsibilities in RSAI’s Community, we can cite: President of RSAI (2003-2004), Vice-President of RSAI (1995-1999), President of WRSA (1995), President of ASRDLF (French Speaking Section) (1981-1984). And very recently ERSA 2020 Summer School Class was labeled “Antoine Bailly” .
