2021 Barcelona Workshop on Regional and Urban Economics
Internal migrations and cross-border commuting
21-22 October 2021, University of Barcelona, Spain│ Hybrid format
AQR-IREA is pleased to announce the 2021 Barcelona Workshop on Regional and Urban Economics, to be held in Barcelona on October 21st – 22nd, 2021 under a hybrid format.
The workshop will be focused on the analysis of the determinants and impacts of internal migrations and cross-border commuting with a special focus on potential developments after the COVID-19 era. Empirical contributions will be preferred although we would like to include also some methodological papers.
Keynote:
Frédéric Docquier (Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research, LISER), Research Program Leader (on Crossing Borders) at the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research, Research Associate at the National Fund for Economic Research, and Professor of Economics at the Universite Catholique de Louvain.
Audience: Organisers will accommodate around 6-9 papers, to be presented in plenary sessions that will complement the keynote speaker’s presentation. Due to the COVID pandemic, it is also planned to develop the Workshop in a hybrid format.
Submission:
Papers should be sent in pdf format to aqr_workshop(at)ub.edu before September 5th, 2021. Extended abstracts or incomplete drafts will also be considered, but full papers will be favoured.
Travel and accommodation costs for presenters of accepted papers will be covered by the organisers.

- Notification of acceptance: September 15th, 2021
- Preliminary programme: September 22nd, 2021
- Registration opens: September 22nd, 2021
- Final programme: October 4th, 2021
- Registration close: October 15th, 2021

AQR RESEARCH GROUP
The University of Barcelona’s Regional Quantitative Analysis Group (AQR) is located in the University’s Department of Econometrics, Statistics and Applied Economics. Its staff, who number some forty professionals from Spain and other countries, conduct research in the field of applied economics and focus on urban and regional issues.

In 2021 the BARCELONA WORKSHOP ON REGIONAL AND URBAN ECONOMICS reaches its eleventh edition. Since 2013 the workshop also became an ERSA workshop. The spirit of the meeting is to bring together researchers in regional science and urban economics who are working in specific topics in which we concentrate our focus.
