POSTPONED DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES
Speaker: Prof. Roberta Capello, Politecnico di Milano – Dipartimento ABC, Italy
Presentation title: Regional development theories and formalised economic approaches: an evolving relationship
Abstract: Which theoretical approach is better able to interpret the complexity of the real world? Which kind of policies are the result of the most suitable theoretical approach? Which is the one able to interpret regional disparities the most? In order to reply to such questions, the speaker revisits, in a diachronic perspective, the evolution of regional economics theories, with a particular emphasis on the relationship between regional development theories, on the one hand, and formalised economic models on the other. The relationship between the two approaches has in fact evolved over time, achieving however only a partial convergence. In fact, still required is a step forward which would produce an approach combining the economic laws and mechanisms which explain growth, on the one hand, with the territorial features that spring from the intrinsic relationality present at local level on the other.
Discussant: Dr. Martin Andersson, Blekinge Institute Of Technology, Industrial Economics, Sweden
