H2020 Untangled Workshop
Old and New Inequalities In Disruptive Times
1 February 2023, Politecnico di Milano, Italy│Hybrid

On 1 February 2023, UNTANGLED researchers from Politecnico di Milano will organise a workshop devoted to old and new forms of inequalities.

The event will feature a keynote from Professor George Petrakos of the University of Thessaly on “Geographies of inequality in Europe: Drivers, implications, and policy dilemmas”, and six papers that are research outputs from three projects: UNTANGLED, Pillars, ESSPIN and TWIN SEEDS.

Programme

The workshop proposes a one-day discussion on the relationships between the three main challenges – technological development, globalisation and migration – and inequalities, with the goal of highlighting which sources of inequalities are new, and which are well known. The aim is to better interpret the changes so as to suggest actions to mitigate the social effects of the new challenges. The workshop is part of Project UNTANGLED, financed by Horizon 2020, and seeks to compare results from the related projects PILLARS, ESSPIN and TWIN SEEDS to build a common European body of knowledge on these issues.

UNTANGLED is a three-year interdisciplinary Horizon 2020 research project that seeks to examine the interconnected trends of globalisation, demographic change and technological transformation, and their effects on labour markets in the European Union and beyond. By engaging a broad range of stakeholders, including companies and civil society organisations, we will develop practical policy proposals to help governments cushion the negative impacts of these trends and ensure their benefits are enjoyed fairly across regions and sectors. more
